Spring Ring Fling Begins Today!!

Back by popular demand  - our two week, in-store ring promotion!  Several of our designers have graciously lent us a collection of beautiful rings to feature in our boutique for two weeks, starting TODAY!  Rings have grown in popularity recently and our designers/artist have responded creating a variety of styles and price points. Cynthia Ann Jewels has recently launched a collection of stacking bands in yellow gold and oxidized silver (both with diamonds) which are absolutely gorgeous - not to mention totally cool and unique!  In addition to Cynthia Ann, we are showcasing one-of-a-kind cocktail rings from Lauren K,  18kt crownwork rings of all shapes and sizes from Ray Griffiths, delicate symbolic 14kt gold rings from Zoe Chicco, and engagement rings and stacking bands (in 18kt yellow gold) from Adel Chefridi.  The gems featured run the gamut from diamonds to sapphires.  We would encourage anyone who is in the market for a fabulous new ring to come in and take advantage of this great opportunity to try on a wide range of styles and see which suits you best.  And remember, if you don't see exactly what you are looking for, we can always have a ring custom made for you by your favorite designer.

Westchester Magazine's Unveiled Bridal Event

It's not every day that I get to spend an afternoon with all different types of brides (and grooms) to be.  Today I was lucky enough to participate in Westchester Magazine's Unveiled Bridal Brunch at the Surf Club on the Sound in New Rochelle, NY.  Talk about fun!  There was a huge array of bridal-oriented vendors - photographers, DJ's, caterers, jewelers (like yours truly), bridal gown and shoe vendors, hair stylists, makeup artists, and many more.  Hundreds of cheerful brides and grooms, and many family members, enjoyed walking around meeting the vendors and excitedly planning their upcoming "big event." The weather was beautiful, view of the Long Island Sound spectacular, and vibe was positive, upbeat and fun!

Top Trends for 2016

The movers and shakers in the jewelry industry are predicting several exciting trends in the coming year.   Not to pat ourselves on the back, but quite a few of them are already firmly ensconced in Citrine.  We saw, we loved, we purchased and so did our customers.   Exciting, now, to see them become popular on a national level.

So, here's what's hot:

1.  Stackable jewelry/layering.   Women love to layer and stack delicate necklaces, bracelets and rings.  Rebecca Lankford is the queen of layering necklaces by mixing silver, leather and beads, in various lengths, to create a relaxed look.  The ring stack?  Tiny, delicate rings - with diamonds or symbols like those from Zoe Chicco - are hugely popular, as are any with personal meaning (ASHA by ADM Zodiac rings).  Our favorite stacking bracelets remain those designed and crafted in 18kt yellow gold by the ladies at Jemma Wynne.  We simply love wearing a group of them, or adding a few next to a watch for more interest on your wrist.

2.  Unique Stones.  Women are getting a little tired of traditional stones and are gravitating towards unique gems or cuts of stones, which is the specialty of Lauren K, one of our talented designers.  Beautiful, asymmetrical sapphires with several different hues, or stunning tourmalines that move from pink to gray in a single necklace, are just a few examples.  Last week was the annual Gem Show in Tuscon - the equivalent of "Christmas morning" to fine jewelry designers. Here, they meet with their sources to purchase the gems they will use in the coming year and we are looking forward to seeing what they found!

3. Mixed Metal Jewels.  This one fascinates us the most.   When we were first introduced to it - back in 2008 - we thought it was  a "fad" that would soon die off and never gain strength in mainstream America.  Were we wrong!  Mixed metal necklaces are, hands down, the most popular item sold at Citrine year after year - particularly chains that can be worn long, doubled or adorned with a unique pendant (like those made by Stephanie Albertson, Ray Griffiths, Cynthia Ann Jewels or Armenta Collection).  We have also seen it extend into earrings - most often mixing oxidized silver and gold.

4. Y Necklaces.  This interesting design is like having the best of both worlds -  a shorter chain to emphasize the face and neck, with a long drop which adds a little sex appeal.  Zoe Chicco has a wide variety of Y necklaces - often with a tiny yellow or black diamond for a little sparkle.

5. Whimiscal.  Jewels that express emotion or personally "speak" to the wearer are increasingly popular.  Dog bones for that beloved pooch (Jewelry by Cari), feather earrings, heart and arrow mixed matched studs (Zoe Chicco) are just some examples of jewels designed to send a message.

6. Stud Earrings.  No longer what you wear when you first get your ears pierced - or your basic diamond studs.  Far from it.  Designers these days are capitalizing on the renewed popularity of stud earrings and creating a gazillion options with their own artistic stamp on it.  Studs in all shapes and sizes, colored gems and metals - some dressy with pave diamonds and others elegant and simple.  So many great choices you will have to choose from in the coming year.

Anna Beck's Inspiration

Love gathering some behind-the-scenes information when talking to my designers about what inspires them to create specific pieces.  At a recent jewelry show in the city, I was able to catch up with Becky, founder of Anna Beck Designs, who was in town from Bali for the event.  She mentioned how her elephant necklace has become one of her best selling pieces.  After returning from a visit to India, she could not stop dreaming about elephants and decided to create necklace in their honor - symbolic of being "grounded and strong."

Gorgeous Jewelry Dept at BG

Often when I go into the city I leave some time to stop by Barney's and Bergdorf's to do a "little research", and check out what is going on in their jewelry departments.  I love looking at what they are highlighting, searching for new designers, taking note of their cool displays and generally stalking the women.  My first stop recently was Bergdorf Goodman's new and expanded jewelry department and I was completely awed! Definitely worth the stop if you are in the neighborhood.  It is absolutely gorgeous in design and is a big step up for them as a viable destination for something fabulous.  There were some new names in the group - and some of those that I also carry - Jamie Wolf, Armenta Collection - all showcasing high end, (mostly) diamond jewels at a much higher price point.  As much as I appreciated it, however, a part of me missed the accessible (mentally and physically) designer cases near the elevator bank.  Back then it was a friendly and bustling environment where everyone seemed to be chatting about jewels and designers.  The new department is definitely more intimidating - one where you feel you need to speak in hushed tones?  Made me happy to come home to Citrine.  The atmosphere I work hard to create is one that is similar to the former BG department  - an welcoming boutique (where people are not intimidated), filled with creative and interesting jewelry designers, with a knowledgable and friendly staff that can chat all day about jewels.

New Ray Griffiths?

Spent some time in the city yesterday with good friend and designer Ray Griffiths and am excited for his Spring collection.  I have been sworn to secrecy, but he is considering adding a new dimension to his collection that I am really excited about. Can't reveal any more than that. Stay tuned!

Spring 2016 for Mela Jewels

Mela, our sweet friend and designer from Italy, was certainly busy last week at the Accessories Show!  She has expanded her gorgeous collection of organic, baroque pearl jewels to include necklaces that beautifully mix different textures of suede, linen and silk.  Coming to Citrine this Spring - necklaces, bracelets and earrings using her neutral tones which will be perfect for the warmer weather and lighter weight clothes. We (literally) could not keep her pieces in stock over the holidays and feel certain history will repeat itself!

Shopping with Robindira Unsworth

One of the best parts of my job is going to the shows, catching up with my favorite designers and seeing their new pieces. I love hearing, first hand, what has inspired them for the coming season, trends and colors they feel are important, and creative ways they are expanding their line. Yesterday I spent a long time with Robindira Unsworth, Inc. and, of course, am bringing in more of her beautiful jewels. But, what most excited me was her expansion into one-of-a-kind pieces, built around unique gems, set in sterling silver with diamonds. A season or two ago, there were just a few pieces. Yesterday, she had an entire case of these jewels! Loved them all!

One-of-a-Kind Pieces from Lauren K

Last night I hosted Lauren Kessler (of Lauren K Fine Jewelry) for a small meet-and-greet before our upcoming trunk show, and I am beyond thrilled that she is now part of the the boutique.  My clients loved her interesting gems and one-of-a-kind pieces,  and the depth of her line.  There is truly something for everyone - whether you prefer earrings, necklace or ring on a smaller scale surrounded by tiny pave diamonds - or large cocktail statement ring, Lauren K has it.  Her beautiful gems, like the dendritic agate, tourmaline and labradorite above, are so stunning in their natural beauty.  Looking forward to her return the first weekend of December for our trunk show!
